Our Story
The name Kuyup, in the Kala Lagaw Ya language of the Torres Strait, means “Dragonfly”. This ancient insect flies into the Torres Strait region when Sager, the south-easterly winds, begin, and Kuyup signals us to prepare for the next season.
Kuyup symbolises inevitable change and the need to use wisdom and courage to adapt to generational growth. Our culture incorporates Kuyup into the arts and storytelling.

Our Leadership
Kuyup is a 100% Indigenous-owned company that provides holistic consulting services, addressing not only surface-level issues but also exploring the deeper implications of driving change within organisations. Our team has extensive knowledge and leadership regarding the systemic challenges faced by government agencies, community organisations, and the business sector.
Steph Savage is a proud Kulkalgal woman from Iama (Yam Island) in the Central Island group of Zenadth Kes (Torres Strait). With 38 years of experience, Steph has led educational change in both remote and urban settings, working in both State and Independent schools.
Jude Ketchell belongs to the saltwata people of Erub, part of the Kemer Kemer Meriam Nation. Jude comes from a line of strong and inspiring women, who have been her first teachers & storytellers, and they have passed down the cultural values and practice of “gud pasin".
Jude and Steph work together to embrace change through a human rights approach, and grow this leadership style with future generations.
